notghostgirlAlternate universe EARTH set in the future where there are people with superpowers. They are sent to a school on a floating island where they eventually have to form teams and fight to the death with other teams. Those who win can graduate.
Elise Cromwell is a character from my friend's novel in progress! Because it's unpublished and incomplete, Elise is technically an OC. Thus, I'll be describing the world she comes from in a nutshell. A somewhat larger than normal nutshell. Of course, The BASIC section is really all you need to know. It helps to read a bit of the first part to the STORY RELEVANT section. Otherwise, the TL;DR is what you should keep in mind.
BASICS
☆ Set in an alternate version of our world, and in the year 2050
☆ The world is divided into many major powers. Several of them are ruled under different regimes, who in turn are under watch of the Corporate Alliance. The CA, however, does not interfere when war erupts. They simply observe and conduct research.
☆ Every country is divided up into SECTORS instead of cities. Some sectors have names, and others simply have numbers.
IMPORTANT! --> expect certain countries/cities/landmarks to have different names to her. What you may refer to as Colorado may be Sector 38 to her.
☆ In 2009, there was a worldwide pandemic. While a vaccine had been created and distributed, it turned out that it created a genetic trait in most people that would cause their next of kin to develop a superhuman ability. This was discovered ten years after it was given out, when cases of superhuman children were appearing everywhere.
☆ When scientists checked to see what all these children had in common, they discovered that they all had that same genetic trait. It was later discovered that this trait could be passed on to their children and it could be passed on by contact with blood. Those with this trait are called Users.
☆ These abilities often appear through different circumstances, ranging from a simple electric shock to a near-death experience.
☆ Children who are Users are sent to the Academy on a floating island, where they learn how to control their powers and are then used by the CA for research or military use.
☆ When a child discovers their ability, it is against the law to not report them to the Department of Users. The sectors that frowned upon Users never hesitate to report them, but the ones that welcome them tend to keep them in hiding. Users have to be registered and are then shipped off to the Academy. Those who aren't end up being branded as criminals and their families are branded as traitors.
STORY RELEVANT INFO
☆ Every so often, an event known as the Trials of Arcadia happens.
☆ The point of these tests are to pick out the weak and train the strong.
☆ Bots are often employed during the first couple of trials. These are basically robots that fight with the students using a variety of weapons. Some use lasers, others use blades.
☆ Students are to organise in groups of three to six and have to defeat every hostile robot.
☆ Eventually these trials become deathmatches between teams. Arandomiser selects two groups to fight against each other. The team to have the most injured or dead lose and simply vanish from the school records. Occasionally, there will be one on one fights as well.
☆ These Trials go on until the end of the school year, and the ones that survived and passed their classes can graduate.
☆ Upon graduation, students are either sent to the Military to become a solder in the special forces or are assigned jobs that better suit their abilities.
ACADEMY
☆ Students are separated into five levels depending on their abilities: Level X, A, B, C and Z.
☆ Level Z Users are the ones with physical mutations, such as wings or an animal appearance.
☆ Level C Users have more defensive abilities or have powers that can affect their own body (regeneration or duplication for example). There are certain exceptions though, mainly with manipulation abilities that can't be evolved much more than they already are.
☆ Level B Users can manipulate certain elements, like electricity and water.
☆ Level A Users have mental abilities. They mainly consist of telepaths and telekinetics.
☆ Level X Users are special because they are Users who are experimented on and trained to become super soldiers for the CA. They often have multiple abilities (given to them, not born with them) and may or may not be mentally unstable.
